Malaysia. Borneo. 2011. The Penan is one of the last nomadic hunter-gatherers tribes in Asia and are the inhabitants of the Malaysia Sarawak region on the island of Borneo. Despite the strong deforestation activity brought forward by loggings companies, the Penan still live as in the ancient days, hunting the forest and living by what the jungle may still have to offer. However, the moment is delicate as the Penan are going through a thin edge marking the borderline between them and the modern society. Clothing, medicines and processed food are now visible among their shelters due to humanitarian organizations working to preserve their aboriginal lifestyle. Penan may be very attracted by this newness, but the only thing they want is to live the jungle as they always did, with no acceptance for modern society and what it brings along.
